Individual and Family Plans Filed for 2023

August 11, 2022

The 2023 filings are now public. Here are the key things to know about LifeWise individual and family plans next year:

Public Option Expansion

We’re expanding our Cascade Select (Public Option) plans. And we’re proud to announce that both PeaceHealth and Confluence are joining our LifeWise Alpine network, which serves Cascade Select (Public Option) members. The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) awarded us the contract to expand our Cascade Select plans thanks in large part to our partnership with these two major provider groups.

In 2023, we’ll offer Cascade Select in 12 new counties, for a total of 15. This means more affordable, easy-to-understand options for your clients. For coverage starting January 1, 2023, you can sell Cascade Select plans in the following 15 counties: Adams, Benton, Chelan, Clark, Cowlitz, Douglas, Ferry, Island, Klickitat, Pend Oreille, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Wahkiakum, and Whatcom.

As a result of our Cascade Select expansion, we’re discontinuing Cascade (Standard) plans in some counties. Cascade (Standard) plans will no longer be offered in counties where we’re offering Cascade Select (public option) plans. These members will be mapped to a Cascade Select plan and use the Alpine network. This also means that these members will receive the same great benefits at a lower monthly premium in many cases!

Plans

All Essential and Cascade Select plans will renew in 2023. This means your current metallic clients will have a seamless transition to the new year, and you can spend more time growing your business.

There are six grandfathered plans we’ll be discontinuing next year: WiseChoices Prime $1500, WiseChoices Prime $3000, WiseChoices 30 $0, WiseChoices 30 $1500, WiseEssentials Copay $5000, and WiseEssentials Copay $7500. Members on these plans will need to enroll in a new metallic plan to have coverage in 2023. All other grandfathered plans (8) will renew.

Plan discontinuation notices will be mailed by the end of September, and renewal notices by the end of October. Both will be shared in Producer News and available on our website (see timeline below).

Counties

In 2023, you’ll see the same county footprint for LifeWise Essential plans. You can continue to sell LifeWise plans in 35 counties. The only counties where LifeWise Essential plans aren’t offered are Franklin, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, and Pacific; those counties are covered under Premera Blue Cross individual plans.

Cascade (Standard) plans will be sold in 20 counties next year. Cascade Select (Public Option) plans will be sold in a total of 15 counties. Both changes are explained in the public option expansion section above.

Network

Most of our LifeWise plans will continue on the same network with more than 30,000 providers. Your Essential and Cascade plan clients can keep seeing providers in the LifeWise Primary network, including Providence, Swedish, and CHI Franciscan.

Cascade Select will continue to use the LifeWise Alpine network which includes PeaceHealth and Confluence beginning in 2023.

Grandfathered plans will continue to use the LifeWise Preferred network.

Having a relationship with a PCP can increase retention among your clients. Encourage them to select a PCP in their online account. And make sure to use our own Find a Doctor tool at lifewise.com to verify which providers are in-network.

Rates

We’ve filed for an average 12.5% rate increase. This will help cover the rise in anticipated healthcare and claims costs while ensuring members have access to providers and benefits they need. Rates are not final until approved by the OIC in early September.

Commission

We’ll continue the same 3-tier compensation structure in 2023. As a reminder, only individual members count toward the tiers. As shown in the table below, you have unlimited earning potential for the top tier.
